Geocache Description:

This multi/offset cache will bring you to a small kiosk denoting an interesting piece of history that occured nearby. The final cache is located a short distance away down the public right-of-way that offers a terrific view of the water. Please bring your own writing utensil.

At the posted coordinates you will find a kiosk which has quite a bit of information on it. Apologies in advance, as unfortunately there is some graffiti on the kiosk which does taint it a bit. Even with the small amount of graffiti, the sign is easy enough to read land includes a lot of information about the Blue Trail. However, the information you will need is located on the bottom left-hand corner of the sign. Here you will read about a historic battle that happened nearby during the Revolutionary War, which included a rather interesting fact which inspired the name of the cache. Near this spot, Hessian troops and members of Rhode Island's Black Regiment duked it out using hand to hand combat in one of the fiercest battles of the war. You will need to take note of two dates in this portion of the sign, and the numbers taken from the dates can be plugged in numbers for the letters using the below formula to locate the final cache:

N 41° 36.ZYX W 071 16.W[V-3]U

Near the Cory’s Lane put-in was the fiercest fighting in the Revolutionary War Battle of Rhode Island. If you turn the date listed after this statement into the Month/Day/Year format, it would be Y/XZ/177U.

The Continental sloop “Providence” engaged in battle with the "HMS Cerberus," led by Captain John Paul Jones near this site as well. If you turn the date listed after this statement into the Month/Day/Year format, it would be 6/1V/177W.

Once you have plugged in the numbers, you're looking for a nano tube tucked out of view. Use the hint to save yourself from a possibly frustrating search if you would like. Remember to BYOP and replace the cache as found. Thanks, and hope you enjoyed the history! smiley
