Geocache Description:

A social event to share Travel Bugs, and look for some hidden around Historic Downtown Mount Vernon

Historic Downtown Mount Vernon

June 19th, 2015 from 6:00pm to 9:00pm.

Mount Vernon Parks Department works in conjunction with the Mount Vernon Downtown Association to preserve and showcase Historic Downtown. Because of the relatively small area that it takes up, it is already saturated with existing caches.

Downtown Mount Vernon. Established in 1890 is still populated with turn of the 20th century buildings, and most likely bugs from that time. This year the new Riverwalk was completed, and is the launch pad looking for bugs. Weather permitting, we will start from the Riverwalk. We will have tables set up to show off and share your bug collection. This a 'social' event to share your love of bugs. As an added bonus, we also have a bug hunt. You will be given a clue book to explore downtown searching for hidden bugs amongst our historic buildings. Find all ten (10) and recieve a Downtown Bughunt Trackable Tag. As well as being able to log each travel bug you discover.

The Mount Vernon Downtown Association and the Downtown merchants are big supporters of Geocaching. They have provided gifts for the raffle of the Saturday Geocoin Main Event. Take your time and window shop. Support small businesses, in this community or yours. In the event of rain, the kick off will be held at the Food Co-Op located on the corner of S 1st and W Division. Parking remains the same.

This is the Kickoff Event for the Mount Vernon GeoWeekend. Saturday is the main Geocoin Challenge, followed by a CITO event on Sunday Morning, and a second Community Arts based Geocoin event on Sunday afternoon.
