ohjoy!: Hopefully someone else will want to place a cache at this location. Because I don't have a replacement container, will reduce my inventory of active caches.

Geocache Description:

Sequalitchew Creek Trail is open dawn to dusk.

An Unexpected Discovery

In August of 2009, a cache (GC1W651 - Sequalitchew Creek: DuPont's Hidden Treasure) was placed at this same location. After reading the wonderful history of the area on the cache page, I had a delightful walk in the evening to find it with my daughter, Rowq. We saw both trains and a colony of bats on our walk.

It was archived November 2014, and after that, each time I walked down to check on my Riding the Rails cache, I would think that someone should place a new cache here. However, I never had a container with me, so I didn't do that. Others didn't, either.

That changed last week. Before heading down to do maintenance on Riding the Rails, I prepared a special container with a large magnet for a new cache. Imagine my surprise to find the old container right in place! I decided to leave the old one right where it was. Because everything inside was wet and rusty, I removed what I could and placed my smaller container inside. Hopefully that will keep the log dry.

Now there's a new container inside the old container, and a new cache in place of an old cache. The small container has been removed at this time. Refer to the link above for the amazing history of the area.

A Pleasant Meeting
As I walked down the hill to place this cache, I went a bit farther to the shoreline and saw a mom and dad watching their kids who were playing on the beach. They were very excited when a train went by almost overhead.

We chatted a bit about the beautiful day and how they were sad that schools were cutting back on recess and free time for kids in their school. Yes, we talked a bit about our feelings about this, and I complimented them on getting their kids out walking and having fun "just doing nothing."

I left feeling good. So if you have kids available, try to take them with you to find this cache. Talk about what you see along the way. Let them do the hunting for the container. Go just a bit farther to the beach. Encourage their imaginations. Jump, hop, skip, laugh, skip pebbles, and be happy together.
