From this new vantage point Erik could see the cove, and it indeed looked like a promising port. There was no signs of inhabitance, the beach was perfect for his ship, and he made the decision to Ragnar Forkbeard, a trusted man, back, following the coast and his markers to meet up with Half-dan and retrieve the Golden Dragon, and bring it into this natural bay. Whilst they were doing this the other half of his group would secure the bay and set up camp to prepare for the long winter ahead.
In time this would become a perminent location for the Vikings, the evidence of which can be seen very close by at the Promontory Fort of Cronk Ny Merriu, which is a short walk from this location. Erik and his men may have helped with the building of this fort before continuing to map the coast having made a beach-head landing and securing their arrival on the Isle of Man.
