I know that this is the official Gahafer's meeting location but this seems to be a good spot for a quick get-together, given the construction around the area.
It is always great to get the geocaching community out and about, but the this event is focused on the start of an 18-month travel bug race for those who would like to participate. The grand prize is a one-year premium Geocaching.com membership, so that is as good a reason as any to get a travel bug tag and attach it to some trinket to compete for something that you know that you can use. Plus, you can talk smack to those who have the big numbers or the annoying hides. It's a level playing field after all.
As explained on the Facebook page, the green flag will drop for all TBs in teh fact at GeoWoodstock XIII in Maryland on May 23 and from there they can end up about anywhere for each TB's next stop. The TBs will race for the next year and a half until a date just before the annual GEOCKY birthday bash in December 2016. The face results will be announced and the prize(s) will be awarded at the event, typically on the second weekend of December.
The scoring system is still in process but will be ready ahead of the event and posted on Facebook.
Race Entry
You must provide your own travel bug or geocoin for this contest. Each travel bug or coin entered must have zero miles so that everyone is on the same footing when we start.
If you do not have a travel bug, you have options.
- I believe that you can find and work something out with others in the community that have unactivated bugs or coins.
- There is still time to order bugs or coins from the various places on the inter-web
If you cannot make this event but would still take to participate in the race, that is fine too.
Here are your options:
- Bring your TB to this event
- Bring your TB to me at the Lex Geo Art Event on May 9.
- Contact me through my profile and we can work something out.
However, if you choose option #3, it has to be done so prior to this event because time is short between the event and GeoWoodstock and it may not be possible to work something out then.
May the odds be ever in your favor...
