The site of Dunbennan Old Church is a short distance west of Huntly, set amongst open farmland and close to a large range of farm buildings. A later rectangular graveyard was built around the church and this has well-built boundary walls with railings, and there are several large yew and beech trees throughout the graveyard. It is not clear if any of the church survives. There are a number of later stone burial enclosures on the site, which may encorporate some of the church walls, but this is not clear. There are several gravestones and slabs from the 18th and 19th centuries, some of which have been moved after collapsing.
The church is medieval in date and continued in use until 1725, althuogh the parish had been united with Kinnoir before 1640. The Ordnance Survey suggest that the original graveyard there has been in use since at least the mid 16th century.
