Geocache Description:

This is an area of Blackheath well worth a visit at any time of the year but particularly in Autumn and during the Rhododendron flowering months of September to November.  You do not need to go into the gardens to get the cache but will need to be very aware of muggles during the flowering season when the gardens are quite busy.

I'd love to see some photos of your favourite flower found while walking round.

The gardens are open everyday til 4pm for you to wander around in but they do ask a gold coin donation as no government money is spent on the Gardens, geodogs on leash are welcome as well.

A popular shrub to small tree, Rhododendrons come in a number of varieties and are well suited for growing in gardens in the cooler areas of Australia.

Rhododendrons have long been a favourite flowering plant in the garden, and both species and cultivars are available for sale.

Characterized by spectacular, colourful flowers in many forms, they are also a great foliage plant with some varieties for sale well worth growing for the large leaves alone.

With a huge variety in size, from the smaller growing or 'dwarf' types that will reach less than 1m up to taller types that can easily reach 5m+ in height.

A great selection of flower shapes, colours and leaf textures rhododendrons are a great addition to the garden. Rhododendron lochiae is an Australian species with attractive red tubular flowers.

The Campbell Rhododendron Gardens are woodland gardens where Rhododendrons have been introduced as the main exotic plant, complemented by Azaleas, Mollis Azaleas and many deciduous trees, planted under the Australian bush. It is a garden unique in the world – no other garden has attempted to plant exotics underneath their existing native bush on such a large scale.
