Arthur Corbin Burton
Veteran of the Civil War
Buried next to a monument erected for his brother, is Arthur Corbin Burton. His brother, Isaac, fought at Chickamauga in a company known as the Warrior Guards. Isaac died at Chickamauga and was buried there.
This battlefield was a tough place for the Burton family, as Arthur Corbin was there as well, a private in Fowler’s Battery. During the fighting, he was wounded, and that wound led to the amputation of his left leg. His pension papers filed after the war note a request for an artificial leg. Arthur died at Ocean Springs, Mississippi at the age of 30; his body brought back to Tuscaloosa for burial.
