#25 Our Emerald Isle: Meghan Lane-Surname
The Meghan surname appeared originally in Gaelic as OMiadhachain which derived from the word miadhach with the meaning honorable. Archives show many variations of the surname Meghan. Several are Meighan, Meagin, Meakin, O'Meighan, and O'Meehan. It was first found in County Leitrim which in ancient times was the western half of the kingdom of Breifne where they have held a family seat since then.
