This cache is in Liberty Lake Regional Park/Conservation area. Access during the summer months requires a fee ($2.00 per person) to park that the lake parking area near the swim beach. Free parking can be found at the equine trailhead above the park.
Liberty Lake was a holiday/recreation destination for the region and many people visited here over the years to enjoy the lake. The area was occupied by Native American tribes until the Homestead Act of 1862 opened this land up to settlers. The lake is still utilized and golf courses now sit nearby.
Adjoined to the lake is the Liberty Lake Regional Park. One of the largest county parks in the State of Washington, Liberty Lake Regional Park altogether contains over 3,591 acres of wetlands, lakeshore, montane forest, irrigated turf, conservation areas, and an ORV Park. The park provides a designated swimming beach, play equipment, shelters, a BBQ area, campground and seven miles of trail. (source - Spokane County Parks Department)
The cache is located past a Cedar Grove conservation area containing old growth Cedar and a nearby stream. The stream is fed by a waterfall that can be seen past this cache along the trail. Container is hidden at backside base of twin split cedar that splits to a triple.
2015 was the inaugural year of Spokane Geocache Tour. This Spokane County tour sent geocachers on a trip through Spokane History, finding caches in areas of historical significance. Visiting urban and rural gems, historic farming communities, forts and geological marvels. The Spokane History Geocache Tour rewarded those who completed with a commemorative Geocoin featuring the native Spokane Salish language.
