Nick's treehouse Traditional Cache
Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions
in our disclaimer.
Just above Karori Park there's a recreational area in a small block of forest.
The Wahine track is a short walkway that starts behind the dog park along the sports track opposite (and a bit to the left) of Karori Park Cafe. It's a popular area for walkers, trail runners, dog owners and mountain bikers.
The cache is located a short walk uphill (if you're entering from the Karori Park end). Area is steep and cache location off the main track.
Please bring a pen.
This is a nice short - but steep - track through a mature pine forest.
The track has existed for many years, but was closed after the Wahine storm of 1968 because of massive damage. Thanks to the Makara Peak Mountain Bike Park supporters and their restoration work it was reopened in 2003.
A little warning:
The area is prone to slips and tree falls, so please take extra care, especially after storms or heavy rainfall. This track is also used by mountain bikers, so watch out for them racing down the hill and be prepared to jump out of their way. This is a shared place for people on foot and on bikes - please be nice to each other and watch out for each other's safety.
The cache is located a little bit off the Wahine track. You'll be looking for a treehouse. Even though the name of this cache suggests that this treehouse belongs to Nick, this is not the case. The cache was set up as a birthday surprise for Nick and we don't know who built the treehouse (but we are very grateful for the builders, since they gave us such a supreme cache location).
GZ will be muggle-free and hard to see from the main track most of the time. However, if you see kids playing in the treehouse or a couple spending a romantic evening watching the sun go down over the hills when you get there, please abandon your mission and come back another time.
