This cache is placed with permission from park staff of the Powhatan State Park. There is a fee for parking at all times; at the time of publication, it was $3 on weekdays and $4 on weekends (free if you have an annual pass to this park or to all the state parks). Please abide by all park regulations. The posted coordinates are not the location of the cache.
The physical cache is the final zone on the "Our Mrs. Reynolds" Wherigo cartridge. Download it HERE
The difficulty rating is for the process required to solve all the little field puzzles and complete the Wherigo cartridge: the cache itself is not a tricky find. The terrain rating is due to the length of the hike; all walking is along the road or well defined trails in the park, which are mostly flat. This Wherigo Adventure will take you on a hike of about 2 miles along park trails, but there will be an additional walk of about a mile back to the parking area once you have found the cache and signed the log.
The cartridge containce GC numbers of eight caches which were in place along the way you will be going at the time the cartridge was created. Many of those caches are still in place in spring 2021, but some have been archived, and others may disappear as time goes on. Suggest you check before leaving home! (The Wherigo cartridge notes the GC numbers of those caches as you get to the appropriate section of the trail.)
Our Mrs. Reynolds, for Wherigo Adventurers who are not Firefly fans, is a sneaky young woman always on the lookout for the main chance. Her idea of the perfect life is the grab for easy money. In a recent, and particularly sly, little episode of her life, she passed herself off as a sweet young thing and married the totally unsuspecting Captain Malcolm Reynolds, but then (spoiler alert!) it turned out that what she really had her eye on was the Captain's other lady--his ship. Our Mrs. Reynolds took over the control room, set the ship on autopilot to what was intended to be a particularly nasty end for the crew, and then took off on the run in one of the ship's two shuttlecraft.
Your job, on this Wherigo Adventure, is to track down Our Mrs. Reynolds and retrieve the keys to the shuttle so that she can't take it any further, and so that Mal can collect it at his leisure. You will be following in O. M. Reynolds' footsteps, and along the way you will pick up clues to where she stashed the keys.
Some tips for completing the Wherigo cache: You will need a notebook and pencil, or some other way to make notes and to solve a few fairly simple field puzzles along the way. The questions appear at the bottom of all the photos, so if you are using the cartridge on a GPSR like a Garmin Oregon, you may find that you need to scroll the pictures up so that you can see the questions at the bottom. You can do this Wherigo Adventure alone, but it will be more fun (and you will be less likely to fall into our lady's fine snares!) with a friend! Watch out for Our Mrs. Reynolds, though--she has her little tricks!
Original stash includes an FTF trackable geocoin, some pathtags (all the same--please take one!), and some souvenir antique keys (again, please take one!)
UPDATE: April 13, 2021:
For users of the Android Whereyougo app: I have repaired the cartridge so that it now works with the whereyougo app for Android. I enlarged the zone for the first stop so the app will now give you the information you need to proceed. There is one wrinkle for using that app with this (or any) wherigo cache: At nearly every stage, you will get an instruction to scan a QR code. That is something that the developer of the app put in as an alternative method of entering information, and cache owners do not (as near as I can find out!) have an option to remove it. This can be very confusing when you get to a screen with a question and an instruction to scan the code and no other information. In fact, you do not need a QR code, and you can manually enter the information. There is a little thin line above the instruction to scan which looks like a decorative dividing line. If you tap that line (see picture below), you will see that a cursor appears and you can just type in the answer. So when trying to complete this cache, ignore all instructions to scan QR codes and manually enter answers instead.

In a number of places, you will see that the answers are multiple choice, and those are more straightforward. A note about prizes: at some point, someone took the last antique key without letting me know. I have replenished the supply. Please take one per screen name, and if you take the last one, please indicate that in your log. Thanks!
IMPORTANT NOTE:
One of the signs that was built into the adventure has been removed. When you get to the spot, you will need to enter "hunting" and "12" as the answers to the two questions that you are asked there. That will allow you to move on through the rest of the whereigo cartridge.
