Um El Faroud is one of the best diving wrecks in Malta and in the Mediterranean Sea.
This is the first cache of our scuba diving cache series in Maltese islands.
The cache is located inside an open service hatch in the wreck's funnel / chimney at a depth of 18 meters / 60 feet. You need to be at least PADI AOWD or equivalent to access this cache. No penetration skills needed.
The cache contains underwater logbook and a pen. No need to bring own.
Um El Faroud was a 10,000 ton tanker. Following a gas explosion during maintenance work, she was scuttled off the coast of Wied iz-Zurrieq as an artificial reef and diving attraction in 1998. The total length of the tanker is around 110m and it's laying on a sandy bottom at the depths of 15 (chimney) to 36 meters (propeller).
Here is a video from the wreck and drawing of the dive site. The wreck is quite far out from the shore, so local guidance is needed. Do not attempt to dive the wreck unaccompanied.
