Geocache Description:

YRGC Geofest and Geofest Express Power Trail

The YRGC appreciates your attendance at Geofest and extend as thanks this new batch of caches for your enjoyment. We hope to see you at Geofest next year!

When solving puzzles, sometimes it looks like the cache owner has given you very little to work with, and nothing that looks like it could become coordinates for a cache.

At first glance, this can seem impossible and we need to narrow down what options are possible. So, what do we know?

  1. It is an image.
  2. If we quickly highlight the entire page (press the CTRL and A buttons simultaneously on your keyboard, we can see that there is a small hint provided, which is helpful (it's right at the end of this place in this list).    train font!
  3. If we look at the image itself, one of the trains with its cars appears three times in a row. That's probably significant.
  4. If we check the hint box, there is an extra hint provided.

This leaves a couple of possibilities: one is that the information is somehow hidden within the image itself. The other is that the trains in the image are the information and we just need to figure out how to make them into numbers.

There are methods to process images and see if there is information in them (e.g. using programs such as Paint or Photoshop to adjust the image until the information becomes visible), but the one train repeating three times makes it a stronger posibility that the trains themselves have the information that we are looking for. In this case, we need to use the hints we have been given first to see if they can tell us .

One of the best tools when solving puzzles is a search engine. Enter the puzzle hint and the other information provided from highlighting the page together in whatever search engine you like to use. Then, instead of clicking through the many links that will come up, try switching to the "images" results. There you should see a set of results come up and one of them, if you compare it, will match the trains in this image and provide you with an alphabet. In the case of this puzzle, the numbers have been written out as words to add a twist to solving it.

With that information in hand, the solve to this puzzle should be within reach: it will involve a pencil and paper and a bit of time. The breaks in the trains within the image will not match up to actual word breaks--it does make this puzzle more challenging!

Remember, the geochecker at the bottom of many puzzle cache pages is provided for you to make sure your solution is correct. If you cannot get it to give you a "green light", additional options are to contact the cache owner as many are happy to help you work through where you went wrong. Alternatively, should a cache owner not be available, contacting a past solver can be a possibility too.

Happy solving!
