Fundy Nature – Ever-changing
Starting in the Point Wolfe parking lot, the trail leading to this cache will take you to a scene of great change. In the last 15 years nature has rapidly removed a long standing man made feature of this area depicted in the photo below. The restoration story of Dickson Brook, which runs through the golf course, is another good example of man’s often futile attempts to control nature. After man, the beaver is probably the species that causes the most changes in its environment. Check out the Tippenlot pond carefully (on the trail of the same name) and try to decide if it has an active colony of beavers at this time. Consider the size of the pond. The state of repair of the dam and most of all signs of fresh chew marks on sticks around the pond edge. If you decide the pond has beavers try to come back at dusk for a chance to see them in action

Une nature en constante évolution Le sentier qui mène à cette cache commence dans le terrain de stationnement de Point Wolfe et vous mènera en un lieu qui a profondément changé. Au cours des 15 dernières années, la nature a vite repris ses droits sur la structure artificielle qui se trouvait ici depuis longtemps, comme le montre la photo ci dessous. La restauration du ruisseau Dickson, qui traverse le terrain de golf, est un autre bon exemple des tentatives – souvent vaines – de l’homme pour maîtriser la nature.
Après les humains, le castor est probablement l’espèce qui apporte le plus de changements à son environnement. Observez attentivement l’étang Tippenlot (sur le sentier du même nom) pour déterminer si elle abrite une colonie active de castors. Tenez compte de la superficie de l’étang, de l’état de la digue et, surtout, des marques de dents fraîches sur les brindilles qui jonchent la lisière de l’étang. Si vous pensez que l’étang est peuplé de castors, revenez au crépuscule pour les voir à l’œuvre.
