Geocache Description:

Man’s Best Friend Series This series is dedicated to all my four legged canine buddies. I have had the pleasure of rescuing ten dogs from various situations – a junkyard dog, a throwaway, abused, and some from the Florida Humane Society. They have all stood by me through good times and bad. Each cache will be named after the dog in the order I had them. A brief description of each rescued dog will be included in this series. I hope you enjoy your doggie adventure.

This cache is in honor of CJ.  My daughter came to me one day with tears in her eyes saying “You just have to take this dog”. She went on to explain that the owner was about to shoot the dog because it had heartworms and he didn’t want to pay to have the dog treated.  I relented and CJ joined our family. When I saw CJ she looked pitiful. She was 6 years old and had spent her entire life to that point outside in all weather conditions without any shelter; she was skinny and infested with fleas. She didn’t have any fur left from her shoulders to her butt. Her eyes were matted shut.  Her front teeth were worn to the gum line from chewing on herself.  I took her to our family Vet and he said she was too weak and would not survive the heartworm treatment and to bring her back in 6 months for another assessment.  I brought her back and he could not believe that she was the same dog. Her fur had all grown back and she put back on weight.  She had the heartworm treatment and was a very important part of our family for 8 years.  I have to say that she was a very loyal and loving friend…

This cache is also part of my SWAG improvement campaign.  Come on Cacher’s we can do better with our SWAG swap.  There is an FTF Buck and FTF collector card for the First to Find.  A pen is supplied, but as always you should come prepared.  Co-ordinates should be good; my GPS indicated an accuracy of 7ft. A pokey stick might come in handy.
