Um moinho de água, ou azenha, é qualquer tipo de mecanismo capaz de aproveitar a energia cinética de movimentação das águas. Há centenas de anos, que, o movimento da água é utilizado pelos moinhos. A passagem da água faz mover as ´pás, que estão ligadas a uma mó (pedra redonda muito pesada). Esta, mói o cereal (o trigo, o milho, a cevada, etc) e transforma-o em farinha.
Na Madeira existem as levadas, canais de irrigação que se podem encontrar na ilha e noutras ilhas da Macaronésia. Estas levadas levam, por exemplo, água até estes moinhos. Neste geocache a levada está fechada e seca.
Não esquecer de fazer uma visita ao bar "21".
A water mill, or mill, is any mechanism to harness the kinetic energy of moving water. For hundreds of years that the movement of the water is used in the mills. The passage of water moves water wheels, that, are connected to a millstone (heavy round stone). The milled cereal (wheat, corn, barley, oats, etc.) is then transformed into flour.
In Madera we have the "levadas", irrigation channels that can be found all over the island and also in other islands of Macaronesia. The "levadas" also take water to the mills. In this geocache, this "levada" is closed and dry.
Don't forget to make a stop at the bar "21".
