NotreDameDesNeiges

(source http://www.peisey-vallandry.com)

EN - The chapel of Our Lady of the Snows, whose official name is Our Lady of the Visitation, was founded in 1705. It is located in the hamlet of Beaupraz above Les Lanches at the door of the Vanoise National Park. A mass is said there in June and October, the dates for the migration of the population of the villages of Peisey to Beaupraz and Les Lanches. Sometimes in the evening in summer the bell calls the faithful to mass.

On August 5th 366 in Rome Our Lady of the Snows appointed by snowfall the location where was to be built the Santa Maria Maggiore Basilica. Inside the chapel the altarpiece and the front of the altar show the visitation, the visit of St. Mary to her cousin Elizabeth, pregnant with John the Baptist. St. John the Baptist is represented to the right of the altar. St. Lawrence, patron of the poor, holds the palm and grill of his martyrdom. (source http://www.peisey-vallandry.com)
