This cache is located 300m from a very active Sand Martin colony. You will not have to go onto the beach to access the cache but you will to see the colony. The beach is very rocky so please bring appropriate footwear. Also beware that high tides can make it difficult to get down to the beach. Please bring your own pen and rehide the cache exactly where you found it
Sand Martins are wonderful small aerobatic birds that nest in cliffs and high river banks. They are extremely agile and will casually fly within metres of people to catch insects in the air. They can be seen from mid March until September sharing the skies with swallows and some swifts. Other notable birds that frequent the area are rock pipit and wheatear. Gannet and several species of tern can be seen diving dramatically for fish close to shore also during decent weather.
