Escalator Squash from Brave New World the book by Aldous Huxley.
Huxleys' "Brave New World" may have seemed an unlikely tale when first published in 1932 , but his description of an economy which is reliant on production of , and purchase of , pointless consumer goods to keep the money flowing is not really science fiction any more !
Sport is an area of life in the book which falls prey to this consumerist imperative , and simple games of ball or bat & ball have been superceded by ones requiring much complex specialist equipment . . Escalator Squash is a game mentioned in passing , but with no details of how where or what the game consists of, other than that it is played on escalators.
Please note , any attempt to develop the game in real life will not make the shopping centre security guards happy ...
