Quantum Pool from Cosmonaut Keep by Ken MacLeod.
Quantum pool is a hi tech game which uses virtual reality gloves and glasses to place players in a virtual bar with a virtual pool table. In order to decide who breaks the players call 'dead ' or 'alive' and consult a Schrödinger box, within which a virtual cat's virtual life is at the mercy of a randomizer linked to a decaying isotope somewhere in the real world.
The Quantum Pool balls obey the laws of quantum physics rather than classical Newtonian ones : for instance fast movement of the cue causes it to shorten by the Fitzgerald-Lorentz contraction which can seriously affect the shot, and there are corner pocket black holes which exert gravitational attraction on the balls , causing their paths to curve.
