Affirmed Mystery Cache

Affirmed was the eleventh (and last as of May 2015) winner of the US Triple Crown (Kentucky Derby and Preakness and Belmont Stakes).  This geocache is the third in a four cache series that commemorates the achievement of winning the Triple Crown.  All four caches can be found by taking a single lap around the 3.1 mile racecourse.  The track has an especially pretty backstretch.  Odds are you will enjoy yourself.

The cache is a two-stage multi.  To determine the coordinates of the first stage, add the last three digits of the year that Affirmed won the Triple Crown to the decimal parts of the latitude N39 25.466 and longitude W76 52.815.  Check the answer below.

1.  The first stages of Sir Barton, Secretariat and Affirmed are along the trail BEFORE getting to any of the final stages (caches) so do them as they come.

2.  IMPORTANT!  Each of the first three caches contains two numbers that are needed to find the fourth cache.  The numbers given in the caches must be converted from Triple Crown Code before being used.  Here’s the way:  TRIPLE the number; if the result is a single digit, use it as-is; if the result is a two-digit number, use only the 2^nd digit.  All bets are off if you forget the numbers or don’t decode them!

3.  Measured coordinates, when checked 24 hours later, sometimes differed by an uncomfortable amount, so the hints are very specific to make the finds doable in a sometimes difficult environment.
