The cache is located outside one of the many entrances to the English Market. There has been a market at this location since the 1780s. The current buildings were constructed in the mid 1800s, with the ornamental entrance at Princes Street being constructed in 1862. The market was damaged by fire on 19 June 1980 and was refurbished by Cork City Council.
