Geocache Description:

The Peppertrees in the Klein Karoo have the most beautifull trunks. As it ages it takes on amazing shapes which always facinate people from here and abroad.

Although the trees are not idiginous to South Africa, they have been "adopted" by our country, especially by the Karoo people. Tradionally the Karoo do not have many shady trees for man and animals so these trees were introduced for that purpose as well. They do not require a lot of water and attention. Red peppertrees are extremely hardy trees and do not spread like crazy as other alien invasive plants or trees does. They grow relative quickly, get very big and make huge dense canopies for birds to nest in. The red peppercorns smell amazing as well as the leaves as you rub it between your hands. The true character of these beautiful trees lies in the trunks and bark.

The cache can be found from 09h00 till 17h00 Mondays till Saturdays and 09h00 till 15h00 on Sundays. The area is open on public holidays as well. Keep in mind that if the gates are closed nobody is allowed on the property. There might be a private function or an event happening, although this hardly happens. The owners and staff know about the cache and granted permission to place it here. Awesome place. Typically Klein Karoo!
