Geocache Description:

The Fire Danger Rating 'wheel' was developed to alert people to the level of bushfire risk on a particular day during the fire danger period.

Victoria is one of the more fire prone areas in the world. The Fire Danger Rating predicts how a fire would behave if one started. The higher the rating, the more dangerous the conditions.

The rating is your trigger to act, so to stay safe you need to stay aware of the Fire Danger Rating - which is area specific - so it is important to know the Fire Weather District. This cache is located in the South West Fire District.

Ratings are forecast using Bureau of Meteorology data for up to four days in advance, based on weather and other environmental conditions such as fuel load.

During the fire season, the Fire Danger Rating will feature in weather forecasts and be broadcast on radio and TV and appear in some newspapers. It can also be found on the websites of the CFA and Bureau of Meteorology, on roadside signs or by calling the Victorian Bushfire Information Line on 1800 240 667

The rating gives an indication of the expected fire behaviour on a given day and can be used as a guide for the actions you will take on that day. For example, it would be a safer option to go shopping or visit the art gallery or cinema on an EXTREME day than bush walking or mountain bike riding in a high risk area.

You are looking for a small black box. Bring your own pen.

NOTE: Log is waterproof paper. Don't worry if it is wet, just wipe the water off and sign it with a ball-point pen.

Micro Log Hint: Roll up the paper log and place into lid, then slide the body of the tube over the log and push onto lid. Then the log will come out with the lid when next opened.
