You'll notice the forest floor here is a bit different. The lumps and bumps are causing by trees blowing down and the root balls decompose. Trees only blow over regularly in areas of shallow bedrock or shallow water. We know it's several hundred feet down to bedrock, so this is a spring area. In spring there are many pools, but not unmanageable.
