Geocache Description:

This cache will introduce you to yesteryear, with the SFTM, the Shelburne Falls Trolley Museum. Your are also in the area of the Pan Am Railroad, (Boston and Maine), called 398.

This cache is in the property limits of the SFTM, short for the Shelburne Falls Trolley Museum. The SFTM is a short trolley line that operates from May to October of each year. Car 10 is the trolley car that is featured, which was built in 1896 in Springfield, MA. Car 10 ran from 1896 to 1927, under the name of the Shelburne Falls and Colrain Street Railway and then in 1927, it became a storage space for a local person. Then after 60 plus years, in 1990, the SFTM organized, with grant money and volunteers, they got Car 10 back on track in 1999. The Shelburne Falls and Colrain Street Railway ran 7.5 miles from where the SFTM is located now, over the Bridge of Trolley (Flowers) and went down where Rte 112 is now, toward Colrain. It carried freight and passengers. Please stop by and take a ride on this Trolley Car and discover what it felt like to ride back in the early 1900s. There is a Pump Car that is in operation from the Central Vermont Railway, owned by the SFTM and there is a self guided Green Mountain Caboose, owned by the SFTM on display. There is full permission to be here on the property looking for this cache. I am a volunteer and a maintenance person volunteer for the SFTM and welcome you to the property. There is another cache there, unrelated to this one. These two caches are separated apart as required by geocaching guidelines. The cache not what it was originally. If fact, I changed the difficulty to a three. The old GZ was taken away and I recently replaced and relocated the cache, but not far. Had to use a different container and I had just the one for this. You will have plenty of parking and it will be available all season. In the Winter, the SFTM is closed and secure from anyone entering the main area grounds. This cache is Winter friendly and should be a park and grab. Please do not forget about favorite points if you like the history and the view!
