Some History:
An ancient geocache was once hidden within the vacinity of this hill. There are several historical sites and landmarks in the area; practically all of which have connection in some way with the finding of this ancient cache and the contents therein.
The Cache:
Cache has been placed with the expectation that the grounds be respected. PLEASE honour this request! Failure to do so may result in removal of the cache.
The stamps in this cache are images of items related to sites in the area. If you use the coordinates attached to each stamp, you will come to a plaque/monument/etc where you can find out what each image is about. Your discovery of these plaques/monuments/etc is optional and can be completely self-guided - there is no reason to strike up a conversation with anyone in the area unless you choose to. Just be mindful, some of the sites are closed from dusk to dawn. Please be respectful of any posted hours.
Also, BE WARNED!! The area is prone to high muggle traffic, especially in the summer months. PLEASE use stealth where needed, and keep the cache well hidden!
Finding the Cache:
You will have to climb up the hill in order to reach the starting coordinates.
From the starting coordinates, take the unpaved trail, "following the rod(s)"
. Trail might be tough to figure out, especially in Fall/Winter with leaves/snow. Eventually you will see three white rods, ending at "the tree". "Choose the right", and you'll stubble upon a hallow wooden container. In this container, "under a stone of considerable size" (and leaves and bark, etc for camo
) lies the cache!!
Enjoy!
Update (8 November 2022): This area has undergone many major changes recently in an attempt to bring it back to its "natural" look from the early 1800s. Several information plaques in the area provide explanation. Tread lightly, and obey posted signage.
A side note...
This cache also contains my first attempt at a home-made, hand-carved stamp. As you'll notice, I am definitely FAR from perfect, and should probably stick to letting the experts handle my stamp creations
!
Also, an FYI on the nearby monument - it is actually an NGS Benchmark which can be logged using the following link: OF1431 - "Cumorah Monument".
