Deciding to place this cache taught me a view things, and I would like to share some of that knowledge:
Ohio Historical Markers
1. There are around 1,600 of these markers spread throughout all 88 counties of our state.
2. The names centered at the bottom are those who donated the marker.
3. The lower left corner contains the year the marker was placed.
4. The lower right corner contains a serial number, in this case "15-80". The 15 means that this is the 15th marker placed in the county, and the 80 represents the county (Union), as listed in alphabetical order.
Blockhouses
1. Were built by settlers to protect their lands from invading Indians.
2. The term "loophole" originally meant the slits used in walls for which archers and marksman could shoot out while only allowing a small target for their enemies to retaliate. The term is more commonly known today as an opening in which one may evade a law or rule.
3. The only known blockhouse still standing in the state is in Mansfield, approximately 65 miles NE of this location.
