Geocache Description:

SideTracked caches are Cache and Dashes for public transport users, which can be found at or near train stations, ex-train stations or near miniature railways!
Several trains per day used to stop at the Taussat station.
French painter Toulouse-Lautrec was certainly the most reknowned passenger because the artist often came to spend his holidays in the village of Taussat.

Among the former stations of this area of the Bay of Arcachon, Taussat is undoubtedly the most preserved one. You can still see its wooden hall and its raised dock which allowed goods handling and even a few rails !
The Taussat station was located along the “St Symphorien-Lesparre” line (141 km, 29 stations) which was run by the Société des Chemins de Fer Economiques de Gironde.

The section Arès-Facture was inaugurated in January 1884. The journey (21 km) could be made in 32 minutes since a diesel train was brought into service in 1937.
Trains stopped operating in 1971 for passenger traffic and in 1978 for goods traffic. It was turned into a cycling path in the 80s.

Please remain discreet and do not disturb the quietness of the inhabitants of what is now a private property.
