As you stand and look down the hill hopefully you can understand why this is one of Mum Minions favourite spots. This is why it was choosen for our first geo to be put down. On a clear day, the 'Lump' in front of you in the distance is Slieve Gallion which is the far side of Moneymore. The Sperrins fall away to the left. In between, in the words of Miniest Minion's favourite band, is 'The story of my life'. Within a few miles in front is my maternal's family home for 5 generations. To the left in the same distance my paternal's family home. In the village 'The Ministry' is where they met and started dating. I grew up in this view in the country. The church in the distance on the right is where generations of our family and many others have been 'in'd, outed and togethered' (Christened, buried and married). Many family and friends are enclosed in this view. It was a great place to grow up and still is for the next generation.
I have loved this view from I was a kid and would have loved to live in the little derelict house on the corner. Mc Dowells hill is called after the family that have owned it for generations in the farm at bottom of the hill. One of my greatest achievements as an early teen was to cycle up the hill in one go without getting off. I felt like Rocky at the top of the steps in Philly.
The cashe is a screw top container approx 5cm by 10cm. Pencil and log inside as well as a wee present for FTF. Enjoy the view
