The MIckelson Trail is an old railroad bed that runs from Deadwood to Edgemont :109 miles. Mainly the trail surface is crushed rock or gravel. The trail head shelters often contain informative panels for historic background information. Trail passes: $4 day or $15 year. See pass purchasing stand just north of the shelter if you plan to walk or ride this trail. The trail heads along the Mickelson Trail offer shelter, benches,vault toilets and (sometimes) water too. They are easily accessible by car. This trail’s railroad grade is about 4 %.
