Geocache Description:

Built in 1944, The Gerstle River Bridge is 1 of 4 "Steel through truss-style" bridge constructions on the Alaska Highway.

The Gerstle River was named for Lewis Gerstle, president of the Alaska Commercial Co. by Lt. Henry T. Allen, whose 1885 expedition explored the Copper, Tanana and Koyukuk river regions for the US Army.

We placed this cache after stopping here for the night on our way to Chicken, AK on the Taylor Highway.  This section of the Alcan needs a few more caches.  There is plenty of room for parking and for big RV's(and towables).  Seemed to be a popular area for 4 wheelers.  The cache is placed in an easy park and grab location. It will have room for smaller swag items and/or travel bugs or geocoins.
