Akaiwa ferry (called Kuzuwada ferry in Saitama pref.side) was used Uesugi forces in the civil war era. The port prospered as an outport of the tributes in the Edo era and was counted at 16 famous ports of Bando. At the present time It becomes a part of the prefectural road 83 Kumagaya-Tatebayashi Line and can go by bus from Kumagaya to Tatebayashi when use this ferry on the way. When you fly a yellow flag in the bank of a river of the Saitama side,the ferry come to pick up you from the bank of a river of the Gunma side. Though the ferry is free, we are hesitant to return immediately. So I think it's better to use when you want to go to the opposite bank by Tone River cycling.
赤岩渡船（埼玉県側は葛和田の渡し）は、戦国時代には上杉軍の渡河に使われ、江戸時代には年貢の積み出し港として栄え板東十六渡津に数えられました。現在は県道83号熊谷・館林線の一部となっており、途中この渡船を使うとバスで熊谷から館林まで行くことが出来ます。
埼玉県側の河岸にある黄色の旗を揚げると群馬県側の河岸から迎えに来てくれます。渡船は無料ですが直ぐに引き返すのは気が引けるので利根川サイクリングで対岸に渡るとき利用するのが良いでしょう。
