This building operated as a Post Office from 1909 to 1956. In 1923 the name was changed from Nolan to Wiseman. BLM reports that the name Wiseman came from an early miner, John Wiseman, who claimed in the nearby creek.
Access is most practical from the Dalton Highway, which runs from Livengood to Deadhorse, north of Fairbanks. Please respect private property in Wiseman. Cachers are encouraged to visit the exceptional Arctic Interagency Visitor Center in Coldfoot for historical information of the area.
