[ITA] Adria è un comune della provincia di Rovigo nel Veneto, situata tra i fiumi Adige e Po.
I resti della cittá Etrusca di Adria o Hatria sono stati rinvenuti sotto la moderna cittá, da 3 fino a 4 metri sotto l'attuale livello del mare. Adria e Spina erano porti e depositi Etruschi per Felsina (ora Bologna). Adria deve probabilmente il suo nome durante il primo periodo al Mare Adriatico, con cui era connessa tramite canali.

Ponte Castello – Cittá di Adria
Di inequivocabile stile veneziano, è il più celebre tra tutti i ponti di Adria. Nelle mappe più antiche della città appare come “ponte levatoio” in legno.
Francesco Antonio Bocchi, infatti, c’informa che fu rifatto in legno nel 1609 e, nel 1630 (circa) “si dovette fare una questua per farlo accorciare”. Nel 1840, abbattuto il vecchio ponte levatoio, fu rifatto in pietra con la forma attuale. Per il ponte di castello transitavano non solo imbarcazioni commerciali ma, nei periodi bellici, navi da guerra con truppe e munizioni. Il cronista A. Bocca in “Annali Adriesi” a cura di A. Lodo, Ed. Minelliana (1985, alle pag. 145 e seguenti) annota:
- 3 giugno 1643 “…è passato per questo canale un barcon di munizioni per andare alla Canda dall’Ecc.mo generale cavalier Pesaro Procuratore (Giovanni Cà di Pesaro, Generale di Terra Ferma, comandava il presidio militare veneziano composto da 12.000 uomini, di stanza a Canda nella guerra contro i Ferraresi)
- 8 giugno 1643 “… in si fatto giorno per questa Città barche n. 7 de Greci che andavano alla Canda dell’Ecc.mo Generale Pesaro per la presente guerra…”
Quasi tre secoli dopo, il 25 aprile 1945, il Ponte Castello fu coinvolto nella Seconda Guerra mondiale. Minato dalle truppe Tedesche in ritirata fu fatto saltare proprio nella notte precedente la Liberazione della Città. Non fu distrutto completamente, tuttavia fu necessario il suo rifacimento. Il Ponte di Castello fu ripristinato in pochi mesi dall’impresario edile Sig. Gaetano Barbuiani.

[ENG] Adria is a town and comune in the province of Rovigo in the Veneto region of Northern Italy, situated between the mouths of the rivers Adige and Po.
The remains of the Etruscan city of Atria or Hatria are to be found below the modern city, three to four metres below the current level. Adria and Spina were the Etruscan ports and depots for Felsina (now Bologna). Adria may have given its name during an early period to the Adriatic Sea, to which it was connected by channels.

Castle Bridge – City of Adria
With unequivocal Venetian stile, this bridge is one of the most famous bridge of Adria. In the most ancient maps it appears as a wooden “draw-bridge”.
Indeed, Francesco Antonio Bocchi informs us that it was rebuild in 1609, and around 1630 “it was necessary to beg for money to shorten it”. In 1840, the old draw-bridge was demolish, then it was rebuild and made with stone with the current shape. Through the castle bridge passed not only commercial ships, but in the wartime even warships full of troops and munitions, The reporter A. Bocca in the book “Annali Adriesi” edit by A. Lodo, Ed. Minelliana (1985, pg. 145 and following) wrote down:
3rd June 1643 “…it was pass through this canal a pontoon with munitions direct to Canda to the honorable General Knight Pesaro Procuratore (Giovanni Cà di Pesaro, General of Terra Ferma, commanded the venetian military district composed of 12.000 men at Canda involved in the war against the Ferraresi)
8th June 1643 “… in that day through this City 7 ships of Greeks went to Canda to the honorable General Pesaro for the present war…”
Almost three centuries later, 25th April 1945 (very important date for Italy), the Castle Bridge was involved in the Second World War. It was mine by German troops during their retreat, and it exploded exactly the night before the Liberation of the City. It was not completely destroyed, nevertheless it was necessary to rebuild the bridge again. The Castle Bridge was renovate in few months by the builder Mr. Gaetano Barbuiani.
