Who are we?
We're a pair of Ottawa-based cachers who will be visiting the Yukon in mid-June. For one of us, it will be a sentimental journey, as he worked for two summers in the Yukon, way back in the late 60's. Believe it or not, he took the above photo from Galena Hill (near Elsa, in the Mayo area) in 1966!
Why an event?
When we noticed that we'll be there for the summer solstice, which occurs this year in the Yukon on Sunday morning, June 21, at 9:39am PDT, we couldn't resist creating an event to mark the occasion. Alas, it will be on our last day in the Yukon, but we'd still love to meet some local cachers before we depart. And who knows, maybe a few other visitors like us will be able to make it too.
When is it?
We'll gather at 9:30am and get acquainted (look for the two folks wearing Tilley hats and geeky GPS gear). The event will last until 10:00, but some of us will no doubt linger over coffee beyond that time.
Where is it?
At the posted coordinates, in front of the Baked Cafe and Bakery, 100 Main Street, Whitehorse.
And then what?
At exactly 9:39am, we'll do something suitable to celebrate the arrival of summer (maybe do a little dance?). Then we'll go into the cafe for a coffee and continue to swap stories, exchange trackables, and whatever else comes to mind.
We're not sure how many active cachers there are in the Whitehorse area, but we hope many of you can make it to the event, at least for a quick howdy and to sign the logbook - please spread the word, and post your 'will attend' if you think you can make it.
