More than a decade after police officer Perry Irwin was gunned down in Caboolture a new bridge that bears his name opened on Sunday 24th May 2015. In honor and as a reminder of Sen-Sgt Irwin who paid the ultimate price for his commitment and courage as he strove to uphold the law and protect the community he served.
Senior Sergeant Irwin was the officer in charge at Caboolture Police Station when he was shot dead in nearby bushland on August 22, 2003. His killer, troubled 21-year-old Damien Coates, then turned the gun on himself.
The bridge spans 100m across Lagoon Creek and provides a more direct and reliable route for residents and emergency services accessing Caboolture Hospital from the north. Previously vehicles coming from Pumicestone Rd had to travel through two train crossings to reach the hospital.
This cache is located at the southern end of the Perry Irwin Bridge; you will need to access the garden to find this one. BEWARE OF MUGGLES - Kids are generally in the area and may be looking to destroy this cache again.
