To the south of you (toward McBride) is the former "Ranch of the Vikings". Bjorger and Anita Petterson operated the “Ranch of the Vikings” from about 1970 until 1985. Starting in 1972, it was the training site for the Canadian national cross-country ski team. It is now a private home, but for many years over the winter months, it was a very busy place with races happening almost every weekend. The "Ranch of the Vikings" offered rooms for the skiers, a kitchen that served meals to the athletes, and a ski shop downstairs where you could find someone to fix your damaged skis or to wax them for the changing temperatures. Anita Petterson, who was born in Inuvik, won a gold medal at Canada Winter Games in 1975.
