Geocache Description:

A very charming beach park near Na'alehu.  Lots of picnic tables, brackish pools and pounding waves.

Whittington is not really a beach park, although it lies along the ocean.  There are several brackish ponds here, and one can still see the remains of what were once warehouses and offices, as well as the skeleton of a pier that was once used to load sugar onto boats.  The park is located where Honu'apu Village once stood.  While swimming and snorkeling are not recommended because of the pounding surf and strong currents, it is a lovely place to have a picnic and explore.  The people of Ka'u know about the park, but it is a hidden jewel that few tourists know about.
