Geocache Description:

A quick cache at a historic spot in Westville.

This cache replaces the recently archived "Outspan Tree - GC196WB"

In the days of horses, oxen and wagons, this tree marked the spot of the first outspan between Durban and the interior.

First Outspan Tree

The Plaque

In 2001 the Rotary Club of Westville erected a plaque at this spot.  The wording on the plaque is very indistinct, but reads as follows:  This Fig Tree marks the First Outspan between Durban and the interior, which was on the farm Wandsbeck on land granted to Edmund Morewood in 1848.  Rotary Club of Westville: 2001.
