UPDATE 2/2026: THE CLIFFTOP PATH IS CLOSED AND BLOCKED OFF UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE. DUE TO AN ACTIVE LANDSLIDE BETWEEN BARTON-ON-SEA AND BECTON BUNNY, THIS CACHE IS ONLY ACCESSIBLE FROM BARTON COMMON OR FROM THE DIRECTION OF MILFORD FOR THE FORESEEABLE FUTURE. WE WILL UPDATE THIS CACHE WHEN THE SITUATION CHANGES.
'B' is for Barton-on-Sea.
The area around Barton-on-Sea has been inhabited since prehistoric times. Barton is twice mentioned in the Doomesday Book as Bermintune and as Burmintune. In this particular locale, the name Barton means Beorma's Farm.
Now a suburb of New Milton, it is the last Western Hampshire village along the South Coast; it lies on the Dorset border. Barton is less well-known than some of the neighbouring towns and villages so tends to be a bit more quiet. Nevertheless, the village offers stunning views, as well as a beach, a golf course, and a lovely common, which is home, at certain times of the year, to six New Forest Ponies.
This cache is an offset Multi. The final coordinates are contained in the Stage 1 cache, which is a well-camouflaged micro. Paths can get a bit muddy after a lot of rain and some get overgrown with stingers in the Summer. Please keep an eye on children and geodogs as this cache will take you close to open cliffs. PLEASE replace both caches exactly as you have found them and use stealth, as the area is frequented by muggles, especially when the weather is good. We have initially included several swaps in the cache, and, in keeping with the A-Z theme, some homemade alphabet letters that can be used as appliqués or whatever cachers like. Please trade fairly.
This cache can easily be completed alongside our Barton-on-Sea Dog Walk Multi. If you choose to do both caches at once, you may wish to use the parking coordinates/starting point for that cache.
Don't forget to take note of the bonus number in the log book!
