The ground for Craig AFB was broke in 1940. By 1941 the area was on it's way to being an important pilot training base. Blue Sky and Body Snatchers were released in 1994. Blue Sky with Jessica Lange and Tommy Lee Jones was filmed in 1991, but not released until 1994. Jessica Lange won a Best Actress Academy Award for her performance. Body Snatchers was the third film to tell the story from Jack Finney's book of alien plant pods making human duplicates in small town USA. Both films made use of the Main Gate at Craig. I've posted two photos from each film in the gallery. The first is from an early scene in Blue Sky, in the end of the film the cast drives out of the Gate as well. The second photo is a postcard of a scene in Body Snatchers with lots of pyrotechnics and jeeps being blown up. The front of the postcard only says Selma, Alabama, which would lead tourist not educated in the events of Bloody Sunday to believe this is an actual photo of that day in 1965. If you keep your eyes out at some of the downtown drugstores, you might be lucky enough to grab one.
