* - Bonus Cache - Hampshire A-Z Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

Mario McTavish: Time to put this one to bed.

The series itself has been slowly falling apart for some time now, with 16 of the 26 caches now archived. I guess like all these things they're a good idea at the start with people all wanting to jump on the bandwagon and set caches - but then those people all give up/stop maintaining and you're left with the few diehards.

I'd been meaning to archive this cache for some time - I had intended to reuse the container/location for a new traditional cache as this container did deserve more visitors than it got - however the recent log made me come out and check on it and sure enough it's been pretty much destroyed. I picked up all that was left (there was still a lot scattered around on the floor) and carried it all back to the car. Most of it is unsalvageable, which is a shame as there were still some good swaps in there.

Thanks to all the finders over the years.

Geocache Description:

This cache is the bonus cache to a series of 26, the Hampshire A-Z, placed across the county by a team of 'Hampshire Cachers'. The caches vary in type, size and difficulty, and each location has a different initial letter...

Hampshire A-Z!

* - this is for the Bonus Cache.

Close to this location is the BroadHalfpenny down cricket ground, sometimes known as 'The Cradle of Cricket' (although Cricket predated this spot by 2 centuries). It is thought that a Hambledon Cricket Club was founded about 1750. The earliest surviving record of cricket at Hambledon dates from 1756, coming from a passage in "The Oxford Gazette and Reading Mercury" newspaper which advertised the loss of a dog at a cricket match on Broad-Halfpenny Down.

The bonus numbers required to find this cache are scattered throughout the 26 caches in the series. The numbers are repeated at least twice, sometimes 3 times so you may be lucky and obtain them all quickly without visiting most/all of the 26 caches or you may be unlucky...

Once you've found the required numbers input them into this to work out the first location

N50 AB.CDE W001 FG.HJK

There you will find a small container with instructions on where to find the final cache.

The final cache is a generously sized container that will take a fair array of swappable goodies. By all means bring out any old toys/board games/things you would like to pass on and deposit them in this cache
