Geocache Description:

Ruined Monastery Chapel, Capel-y-Ffin.

*Please read important access note at the bottom of the page*

In 1869, Augustinian monk Father Ignatius bought the land in order to build a monastery for himself near to Llanthony Priory. He then lived and taught in it until his death in 1908. He is buried under the monastery chapel which has since been neglected and is now a ruin. An annual pilgrimage between Llanthony and Capel-y-Ffin is held in his honour.

The monastery is now renovated, and visitors are welcome to view the grounds and chapel during the day, but not the monastery as people live here. (strictly until 6pm unless staying onsite).

Important note: The cache is on a footpath running behind the chapel. You cannot access the rest of the chapel from the footpath (due to private gardens).
If you want to look around the chapel ruins and monastery then enter via the other waypointed route. Of course, you can access the chapel here, but not the cache.

Placed with very kind permission from the monastery owners.
