Geocache Description:

Across Highway 97D from this cache, there are some old barns and an old house (and a new house) on the property, all very close to each other.  When the first settlers arrived here, they probably thought they had died and gone to heaven.  There was open range land, trees with which to construct buildings, and drinking and irrigation water all very close by.  What more could they ask for? You might need to take a pen or pencil with you to be on the safe side.

This cache is to commemorate all those early pioneers who opened up this country that we now all enjoy.  My father was born in a cabin on Menanteau Lake about 21 km ENE of here in 1914 and I have been to it a few times.  My grandfather was in Europe fighting in WW I and my grandmother was left alone there to raise four young children.  My grandfather was gassed during the war and when he arrived back in Canada in 1920, he was sent to the Sanitarium in Tranquille to recover and my grandmother and family moved in to Kamloops to be closer to him.  In 1925, after my grandfather had partially recovered, they moved to Victoria.  They had a tough life but again helped open up this great country of ours.
