Tarbert Bridewell Traditional Cache

This is the first in a series of caches( to add to the one here by Wassy42) planned for the Tarbert area in co operation with Tarbert Development Association (TDA). thanks to Japandamo for guidance on all matters  geocaching. We hope to use recycled containers for as many of the caches as possible as this wil fit with geocaching.com ideals as well as TDA.

the cache is located close to the Tarbert Bridewell ( built 1831). This building with its high walls and impressive fine cut limestone entrance was built in 1831. For over 100 years it served as a courthouse and jail for the area. Local magistrates dispensed justice and guilty offenders served time in the cells under the watchful eye of the resident keeper.the jail was restored in the 1980's by a local group and now functions as a tourist attraction. Harsh punishments were often handed out for petty crimes. If you visit the jail you can do a walk through and relive the fate of one unfortunate law breaker in the 1830s with life size characters and sound effects. !! From the courthouse to the cells .. Be careful not to cause offence😀 you could well be deported as many of these poor sad people were for minor  misdemeanours. 

The cache is located in Tarbert village on the road to the ferry , close to the Bridewell jail with convenient parking nearby. The cache is a small (micro) container  Recycled  from its previous function as it will no longer save your life! Please leave it as you found it and be careful not to be seen by the jailor or the locals!😄⚓️BYOP.
