Geocache Description:

This is a Letterbox Hybrid. A combination of a letterbox and a geocache. You will go to the geocache coordinates then follow easy letterboxing clues to get to the cache. Be warned, however, that the handcarved letterboxing stamp attached to the logbook is not meant to be traded - that is for letterboxers to use to log their find and record their visit. Do not take the stamp!

Log in anywhere on the logbook you find space. Feel free to add a doodle. :)

This spot is especially nice for viewing waterfowl. Plan to spend some time enjoying the views and exploring the whole area. The Otter River State Forest & Lake Dennison Recreation Area is part of the North Quabbin Woods. "Swimming and boating in Lake Dennison, camping on its shores or on the shores of Beamon Pond, canoeing the Millers River to King Philip Rock, exploring the forest—this area is indeed a gem. With three habitat types—oak/hickory, northern hardwood, and pine—the 4,000 acres of forest are home to diverse wildflowers and birds. Otter River State Forest was among the first acquired by the state in the early 20th century, and Lake Dennison is part of the Birch Hill Dam lands owned by the Army Corps of Engineers but managed by the state. Parts of the area were developed during the Great Depression by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC)." It's a great place to visit and there are many cahes and letterboxes to find here. Enjoy!

To find the cache/letterbox, start at the geocache coordinates then follow these simple clues: Staying on the main trail heading towards Baldwinville (SSE-ish) - take 45 steps. Stop. Look right. You will see a multitrunked tree with an old fallen branch leaning on it - about 7 steps or so off trail, just at the starting edge of a steep slope. (Be careful! Especially if the leaves are damp and slick.) Go to the southern side of the multitrunked tree.  In the crotch of several trunks, you will see a cozy little nest of bark and sticks where Duck, Duck... Goose! is waiting for you.

The cache is in a taped-up plastic container with a secure handled screw-top, approx 8x6x6. Geocache and letterbox instructions are prominent on outside of container, as well as notices that the container is a cache, do not throw away etc.

When you are finished logging in, please, tuck Duck, Duck... Goose! back into the nest, replace the sticks and bark and re-hide very well. Be especially generous with the duff.

Thanks for looking for our first cache/letterbox hybrid!

Yay! Congrats to Fuller's Folly for FTF!
