The route passes the end of Stocks Lane - so named as the village stocks used to be situated on the corner opposite the pub. Once the stocks had been removed, the spare land here was, for a while, the Penketh bus terminus, home of a private bus company owned by a local gentleman, which provided cheap transport into Warrington for Penketh residents who worked in the town.
The cache is hidden just within the grounds of St.Pauls Church (thanks to the Rev. Paul Hockley for his permission), although it is easily accessible from the pavement without need to enter the church garden. The site was originally home to the St.Mary's Mission Church, built in 1889 (I've attached a photo of the church taken in the 1960's - you can actually see the cache hiding place in the photo!), and demolished in 1971 due to irreparable dry rot. The present church was built in its place in 1971, but this one in its turn is due to be demolished later in 2015, and a new church is planned to replace it in 2016.
