Geocache Description:

The Perambulation is a short walk through the village of Penketh, with 13 caches to find along the way. It takes in some of the history of Penketh, informing and entertaining along the way. If you start at Honiton Way Shops, there is ample free parking, and the route is circular, so you end up back where you started. The whole walk should take about 1.5 hours. You may need tweezers, and you will need your own pen for them all. And Number 7 may need an extra bit of kit...

Latham Hall is the home of the 28th Warrington Scout Troop. It is on land behind the neighbouring pub - the land was originally the back garden of a cottage that adjoined the pub. There is a public footpath which runs around the outside of the scout compound - not easy to spot if you don't know it is there. The cache can be found along the path.

The pub on the opposite side of the dual carriageway is not the original, which was demolished to allow the widening of the road in 1966. The pub was considered of historical local importance, as it had acted as the home and meeting place of the Penketh Parish Council for years, and the "Penketh Chest", containing local Parish records, constables reports and other important local documentation, was held in the "old" pub, until it was moved to its current home in Penketh Library at Honition Way. There were several other buildings that were demolished for the road widening, but only one other was rebuilt alongside the new road - a car showroom owned by a local businessman. The rebuilt showroom soon went out of business, and the building was bought by a chain of supermarkets, who moved into the building without making any alterations to its layout - which explains the unusual look of the shop today. The supermarket car-park is built on the site of the old bowling green belonging to the original pub.
